Ingredients Needed For Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:
- 1 cup butter, softened for about 30 minutes
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tsp pure vanilla
- 1-2 tbsp milk or heavy cream
- pinch salt
Instructions For Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:
- Remove the butter from the refrigerator for 30-40 minutes before making the buttercream frosting.
- Cut the butter into pieces and blend the butter with an electric mixer until fluffy and the color has lightened-about 3 minutes.
- Add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, pinch of salt, vanilla and 1 tablespoon of the heavy cream (or milk-cream is better but milk will work). Mix on low until combined. Add extra tablespoon of cream (or milk), if needed.
- Then, increase the speed to medium and beat the frosting for three more minutes. Scrape down the bowl a few times while mixing.
- Stir by hand for another minute or two, to remove air bubbles from the frosting, before piping.
- Pipe or spread on cupcakes. Enjoy!
- Note: This will pipe 12 cupcakes or if spreading a thinner layer onto the cupcakes, it will cover 24.
