Savory French Toast Grilled Cheese sandwiches have an added savory flavor with the added Italian seasoning and garlic powder combined with the egg and milk mixture.
Don’t you just love meals that are not only easy to make but call for things you usually have in your refrigerator or pantry? We all love that! This is such a simple meal for busy weeknights. It is quick to make and requires very few ingredients. We love to serve this with Tomato Basil Pesto Soup but, when I am in a rush, a can of Campbell’s tomato soup works great as well-which is also always in my pantry.
Ingredients Needed for Savory French Toast Grilled Cheese:
Bread (preferably day old but, not day old will work too)
Eggs
Milk
Italian seasoning
Garlic powder
Cheddar cheese
Instructions for Savory French Toast Grilled Cheese:
In a pie plate or shallow baking dish (I like to mix my French toast mixture in an 8 x 8 baking dish), combine eggs, milk, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder. Mix well.
Dip each piece of bread in the egg and milk mixture.
Place each piece of bread on a hot griddle to cook.
When one side of the French toast pieces have cooked, flip them over and place sliced cheddar cheese on top of three of the cooked sides. Place the cooked side of the other three French toast pieces on top of the cheese to make three sandwiches.
Finish cooking each side of the sandwich.
Serve and enjoy.
Serve with hot tomato soup for dipping, if desired.
