Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Can I use fresh green beans instead of canned or frozen?
Yes! Fresh green beans work great in this recipe. Just blanch them in boiling water for 4-5 minutes before adding them to the casserole for the best texture. They will need to be tender, this isn’t a casserole you want to bite into a crunchy green bean.

2. Can I make this casserole ahead of time?
Absolutely! You can assemble the casserole a day in advance and store it covered in the refrigerator. When ready to bake, add an extra 5-10 minutes to the baking time. Add the crispy onion and boxed dressing topping as the recipe states for the best crunch.

3. What type of chicken is best for this recipe?
You can use canned chicken, which is what we used to make this an easy pantry meal. You can also use cooked shredded chicken, rotisserie chicken, or even leftover turkey. If starting from raw chicken breasts, cook and shred them before mixing them into the casserole.

4. Can I make this casserole without cream of mushroom soup?
Yes! This recipe uses canned cream of mushroom soup. If you prefer, make a homemade cream of mushroom soup or a dairy-free alternative if needed. Cream of chicken can also be used.

5. How do I store and reheat leftovers?
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until warm or microwave individual portions for quick meals. The oven will work best for keeping the top crunchy.
