We saw these reindeer on the back of a Kellogg’s cereal box last Christmas and were excited to try them out. It is a really cool idea to use a gingerbread cookie cutter and turn it upside down to make the reindeer head and antlers. Very clever, very cute, and very fun.
Ingredients Needed for Reindeer Rice Krispie Treats:
24 ounces puffed rice (I prefer Kellogg’s Rice Krispies)
20 ounces miniature marshmallows
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon oil
Gingerbread cookie cutter
Colorful round candies-(can use little round candies leftover from the candies in gingerbread house kits)
Edible eyes
Instructions for Reindeer Rice Krispie Treats:
Melt butter and miniature marshmallows over low heat. When melted, add vanilla and mix. Then add puffed rice. Mix to blend well. Press into a cookie sheet-you may need more than one cookie sheet depending on the size.
When the rice crispy treats have cooled, use the gingerbread cookie cutter to cut out the reindeer. You will turn the gingerbread cut-out upside down to make the reindeer.
Melt chocolate chips and oil in a bowl in the microwave slowly, until just melted. Make sure you stir multiple times as the chocolate chips melt.
Use the melted chocolate and the candies to decorate: spread the melted chocolate onto the Rice Krispie Treat as shown in the pictures. Add the small round candies to decorate the antlers (Christmas lights) and use one for the nose. Use the edible candy eyes for the reindeer’s eyes.
Enjoy your adorable creation!
