Ingredients Needed For Apple Cinnamon French Toast:
12 slices of white bread
1 large red apple, peeled and chopped into small pieces
Brown Sugar Glaze:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
Egg Mixture:
4 eggs
1/2 cup half and half
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Dry Mixture:
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Instructions For Apple Cinnamon French Toast:
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.
First, make the brown sugar glaze; melt the butter in a microwave safe bowl and mix the melted butter with one cup of brown sugar. Spread the brown sugar and butter mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish. Set aside.
Next, mix the eggs, half and half, milk and vanilla together in a bowl with a whisk to combine.
Then, mix the brown sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon (the dry mixture) together in a separate bowl. Mix well.
Next, place six slices of bread in the bottom of the baking dish-on top of the brown sugar and butter mixture.
Then, pour half of the egg mixture over the bread.
After the egg mixture, sprinkle half of the peeled, cored and chopped apples over the bread and then half of the dry mixture on top of that.
Repeat with six more slices of bread, egg mixture, apples and dry mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. At about 45 minutes, cover the mixture with foil, if it looks like it is getting too browned. Ovens vary, which is difficult-watch your French toast so it doesn’t burn.
Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar, syrup or whipping cream-or all three. Enjoy!
